A relationship that began during a vacation reportedly turned into a dangerous obsession—and ultimately ended with the death of 27-year-old Brianye’ Copeland.
According to investigators, Kristopher Anthony Sinclair became increasingly obsessed with Copeland despite the two living hundreds of miles apart. Authorities allege that Sinclair secretly placed a GPS tracker on her vehicle, allowing him to monitor her movements.
On February 7, 2025, investigators say the tracker led Sinclair to the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center, where Copeland was present.
Employees reportedly witnessed the two arguing in the parking lot. Authorities say the confrontation quickly became violent, with Sinclair allegedly punching Copeland.
Security was contacted, but investigators say Sinclair shot Copeland before help could reach her. She died at the scene.
Sinclair fled but was later located by police near a wooded area, according to authorities.
Investigators also recovered a five-page handwritten letter in which Sinclair reportedly blamed Copeland for “driving me to madness.” The letter allegedly contained an especially disturbing statement about what he intended to do when police arrived.
But Sinclair did not die at the scene. He was arrested and ultimately faced murder charges.
On September 8, 2026, Sinclair pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a sentence of 25–31 years in prison.
For Copeland’s family and loved ones, however, no sentence can bring her back.
She was only 27 years old—a former basketball player, a daughter, and a young woman whose life was still ahead of her.
What began as an encounter between two people ended in a tragedy that her loved ones will carry with them forever.
