Two weeks in, and the list of quarterbacks being sidelined due to injuries has grown steadily. The latest to join the list is Giants’ Jaxson Dart. Coincidentally, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ decision to keep four QBs in their active roster suddenly looks appealing to others.
Whether intended or not, the Steelers may have created a valuable trade chip for other teams. They have four quarterbacks, with Aaron Rodgers serving as the team’s QB1.
But one of his backups may be expendable should a desperate team be willing to trade for them.
Rudolph is second in the Steelers’ depth chart at quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers. Aside from the two, the team also has second-year Will Howard and rookie Drew Allar in their active roster.
Out of the four, though, Mason Rudolph is the most appealing trade option for a team like the New York Giants.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has cited that the Giants could become a potential suitor for Rudolph after Jaxson Dart’s knee injury in Week 2. Dart’s return this season remains uncertain.
Furthermore, Rodger’s backup could possibly fetch a conditional 2027 sixth-round pick if any trade pushes through.
As previously mentioned, the list of injuries to starting QBs across NFL teams is growing.
“With quarterback injuries mounting around the NFL, Pittsburgh might get the opportunity to get something in return for Rudolph,” Knox wrote.
“The list of Week 1 starters we’ve seen injured now includes Sam Darnold, Jayden Daniels, Jaxson Dart, and Caleb Williams,” he noted further.
Right now, the Giants will opt to start Jameis Winston with Dart out. He has signed a two-year $13 million extension, signaling that the Giants want to keep him around.
But the team needs to bolster its QB depth for a chance to compete this season. Should they trade for Rudolph, the veteran signal-caller could provide a short-term solution for NY.
