Authorities said a utility worker who witnessed the attack stepped in and helped restrain the suspect until police arrived.<\/p>\n

His wife, Maria Garcia, gave a devastating update as the family waits for what appears to be the worst.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t like the flags. I don\u2019t know why. I support America. My husband is [a] veteran,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Police arrested 32-year-old Thomas Caleb Butler, who has now been charged with attempted murder.<\/p>\n
He is being held without bail at the Vista Detention Facility in San Diego County.<\/p>\n
Authorities say Butler fled the scene after the attack but was quickly tracked down and arrested.<\/p>\n
Police also said a bystander who intervened during the violence suffered injuries.<\/p>\n
A friend of Butler told the California Post that the suspect is a Navy veteran with serious mental health struggles.<\/p>\n
