He said he has forgiven Anthony for his own well-being, so he doesn\u2019t \u201ccarry the rage, the hate and that around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat poor boy is fixing to experience a life that I would not wish upon anyone, but he deserves what he gets because we\u2019re all responsible for our actions,\u201d Metcalf said. \u201cWhat it boils down to for me is this: Austin will never walk through that door again, and never give me a hug.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Anthony\u2019s legal team filed a notice of appeal. Dallas-based appellate attorney David Coale\u00a0told CBS News Texas\u00a0that an appeal would focus on whether the trial was handled correctly, including how the jury was selected and whether\u00a0Black jurors were improperly removed\u00a0from the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat stuck out to me, No. 1, was the all-White jury,\u201d Andrew Anthony said. The family\u00a0also alleged\u00a0that witnesses lied on the stand and gave inconsistent statements.<\/p>\n<p>When it came time to give statements before their son\u2019s sentencing, only Hayes spoke. She now says she felt the jury \u201chad their minds made up already\u201d as she spoke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey did a number on us,\u201d Andrew Anthony said. \u201cWe didn\u2019t get justice. A lot of things that were missed that should have been handled a certain way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Collins County District Attorney Greg Willis said in a news conference after the verdict that \u201cjustice was served\u201d and that jurors \u201ccooperated fully and testified truthfully.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Anthony said he believes his son was \u201calready convicted\u201d in the court of public opinion before the trial. The case sparked strong emotions nationwide, and protests have been held on behalf of both Anthony and Metcalf.
