Country music icon Dolly Parton has died. She was 80.<\/p>\n

Parton\u2019s nephew and her longtime head of security, Bryan Seaver, announced the news of her passing in\u00a0an Instagram video\u00a0Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am representing the Parton and Owens family today, announcing the passing of my Aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean,\u201d Seaver began. \u201cSister, Sis and Aunt Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs her head of security, for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven\u2019t truly felt it until now,\u201d Seaver, the son of Parton\u2019s sister Cassie, said. \u201cIt is an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly.\u201d<\/p>\n
In Seaver\u2019s video, he recognized that Parton \u201copened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians and dreamers from every walk of life, and across every continent.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBy her example, we believed that anything was possible,\u201d he went on. \u201cShe never saw a door she couldn\u2019t open and the doors she opened made and changed history. My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Seaver also said that the country music icon called him before her death and \u201csaid she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton because after a life wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest.\u201d<\/p>\n
The video ended with a black-and-white photo of Parton with the message \u201cI will always love you\u201d and her signature.<\/p>\n

Parton\u2019s publicity team also confirmed her passing on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Parton\u00a0shared her final health update\u00a0on Friday, just days after\u00a0canceling her appearance at her Dollywood event.<\/p>\n
She\u00a0told People\u00a0she was \u201cdealing with some health issues that I just didn\u2019t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl,\u201d referring to her husband,\u00a0Carl Thomas Dean, who passed away in March 2025 at age 82.<\/p>\n
At the time of Dean\u2019s death, Parton wrote in a statement, \u201cCarl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can\u2019t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Parton shared in July 2025 that she would be\u00a0taking a brief step back from music\u00a0because she couldn\u2019t \u201cafford the luxury\u201d of \u201cgetting emotional.\u201d<\/p>\n
Months later, in September 2025, Parton abruptly\u00a0pulled out of an appearance\u00a0at Dollywood in Tennessee due to health issues.<\/p>\n
