The new musical Dolly Parton was working on right up until\u00a0her death on Tuesday at age 80, the story of her life, will arrive on Broadway this season as planned, the production has announced.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs was Dolly\u2019s wish, the Broadway production of \u201cDolly: A True Original Musical\u201d will begin previews December 7 at the St. James Theatre in New York City,\u201d a spokesman said in a statement to Page Six.<\/p>\n

Opening night is scheduled for Jan. 19, 2027, which would\u2019ve been the \u201cI Will Always Love You\u201d singer\u2019s 81st birthday.<\/p>\n

The musical, which stars three actresses as Parton at different points in her life, features many of her hits such as \u201c9 to 5,\u201d \u201cJolene\u201d and \u201cIslands in the Stream,\u201d as well as some brand new songs by Parton.<\/p>\n

Its producer, Adam Speers of Ambassador Theatre Group, had been traveling monthly from London to Nashville to work with Parton on the show, which tried out in the Tennessee city back in the summer of 2025.<\/p>\n
Announcing the show in July, Parton said in a video, \u201cThis isn\u2019t about a story about sparkle and shine on the outside. It\u2019s about where I really come from: where I\u2019ve lived, what I\u2019ve lost, what I\u2019ve loved and how I\u2019ve found my way and told it in my own words and and through the music that\u2019s been part of me every step of the journey.\u201d<\/p>\n
