Just her hands, the water, and a routine she repeated day after day without drama or complaint. She\u2019d wring them out with a force that came from somewhere deeper than muscle, drop them into a pail, and move on to the next task waiting for her.<\/p>\n
To her, it wasn\u2019t disgusting. As a kid, I never questioned it. I assumed every mother did the same thing behind closed doors. That this was just how life worked.
