Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel dared to\u00a0repeat the \u201chateful\u201d ill-timed joke<\/a>\u00a0he made about first lady Melania Trump looking like an \u201cexpectant widow\u201d in a bombed roast he delivered days before the\u00a0shooting at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kimmel, who narrowly dodged outright cancellation for making similarly\u00a0distasteful jokes about Charlie Kirk\u2019s assassination<\/a>\u00a0in September, took to the air with a vengeance in his Monday night show.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was like d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu for me today,\u201d he said on \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel explained that his mock roast featured in last Thursday\u2019s show was intended to mirror those comedians usually impart at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner, which was nixed for this year\u2019s celebration.<\/p>\n

One joke during his bit took aim at the first lady.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur first lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow,\u201d Kimmel said.<\/p>\n

He repeated the tasteless joke verbatim in his Monday night monologue following a failed assassination attempt on President Trump\u2019s life \u2014 and after Melania called\u00a0him out for \u201chateful and violent rhetoric.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the dinner Saturday,\u00a0accused gunman Cole Allen<\/a>\u00a0stormed into the Washington Hilton with the alleged intent to\u00a0kill as many members of the Trump administration as possible<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But Kimmel on Monday\u00a0swore that his performance was \u201ca pretend\u00a0roast\u201d\u00a0far removed from the purported assassination attempt.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no big reaction to it until this morning, when I faced yet another Twitter vomit storm and calls to fire me from our first lady,\u201d Kimmel said.<\/p>\n

He insisted that the joke was \u201cabout [Melania\u2019s] age difference and the look of joy we see on her face\u201d whenever she and Trump are together.<\/p>\n

In a social media statement Monday morning,\u00a0Melania fumed<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cKimmel\u2019s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our\u00a0country.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHis monologue about my family isn\u2019t comedy- his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America,\u201d\u00a0she wrote on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Trump also demanded that ABC, which airs Kimmel\u2019s show, immediately\u00a0can the comedian<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cJimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC,\u201d the president\u00a0wrote in a post on Truth Social<\/a>, echoing a call made by the first lady.<\/p>\n

Still, Kimmel made a half-hearted attempt to empathize with Melania for what he called one of her many \u201cstressful weekends\u201d and\u00a0relented\u00a0that he may now be \u201cpro-ballroom,\u201d referring to Trump\u2019s ambitious White House renovation, going forward.<\/p>\n

The president\u2019s and first lady\u2019s damning criticism wasn\u2019t the only fallout Kimmel caught.<\/p>\n

One of his scheduled guests, mentalist Oz Pearlman,\u00a0canceled his appearance<\/a>\u00a0on Monday\u2019s show following the shooting and the Trumps\u2019 outrage.<\/p>\n

Pearlman, who was set to perform magic tricks at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner, had been standing between Trump and Melania at the event when gunfire erupted in the hallway.<\/p>\n

Podcaster Jon Lovett took Pearlman\u2019s slot on \u201cKimmel\u201d and made repeated jabs at the absent mentalist.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sending a message to the mentalist right now \u2026 you cancelled you \u2014\u201d Lovett said. The last two words of his sentence were bleeped entirely.<\/p>\n

Lovett, who hosts the lefty podcast \u201cPod Save America,\u201d recognized the unique timing of his surprise appearance and\u00a0had\u00a0a pointed message\u00a0for\u00a0Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe already went through another episode of Donald Trump trying to cancel Jimmy Kimmel. Gas is up to $6 a gallon. Open the f\u2013king Strait of Hormuz,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
