However, a source told Page Six that Guthrie left \u201cfor some sort of appointment, and her exit had nothing to do with her mom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Page Six reached out to reps for \u201cToday\u201d but didn\u2019t receive an immediate response.<\/p>\n<p>Savannah\u2019s abrupt exit comes as her mother, 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, remains missing. Nancy has\u00a0been missing since Jan. 31, when police believe she was kidnapped from her home in Tucson, Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>The journalist has\u00a0made emotional pleas on social media\u00a0alongside her siblings, Annie and Camron, for any information in order to bring their mother home.<\/p>\n<p>After taking two months off from the NBC morning show in light of her family emergency, Savannah, 54,\u00a0returned to \u201cToday\u201d\u00a0on April 6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is good to be home,\u201d she said at the beginning of the show.\u00a0\u201cReady or not, let\u2019s do the news.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sources told Page Six that ahead of the broadcast, NBC staffers were explicitly instructed\u00a0not to address Nancy\u2019s disappearance, or even formally welcome the anchor back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was supposed\u00a0to be business as usual. [Producers] said to act totally normal,\u201d one source said. \u201c\u2018Move forward\u2019 is the vibe.\u00a0It\u2019s been a hard year and a draining time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with fellow \u201cToday\u201d anchor Hoda Kotb that aired in March, Savannah shared how she\u00a0came to the hard decision\u00a0to return to the show while her mother was still missing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to imagine [coming back] because it\u2019s such a place of joy and lightness. I can\u2019t come back and try to be something I\u2019m not, but I can\u2019t not come back because it\u2019s my family,\u201d she said. \u201cI think part of my purpose now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to smile and when I do, it will be real,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd my joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer, and being there is joyful and when it\u2019s not, I\u2019ll say so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former FBI agent Jason Pack\u00a0exclusively told Page Six\u00a0last month the \u201cwalls are closing in\u201d on Nancy\u2019s kidnapper after Savannah returned to \u201cToday,\u201d explaining that her being back on TV will help bring renewed attention to the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery day that passes, the pressure builds. Keeping a secret like this is exhausting \u2026 and that gets harder with every morning that Savannah Guthrie sits behind that anchor desk,\u201d Pack said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost criminals in cases like this count on the media moving on,\u201d he continued. \u201cThey count on the family fading from public view. They count on people forgetting. This case is different. Savannah has a national platform and she shows up on it every single day.
