Fisherman feels “something” bump against his leg – discovers tragic fate of missing 10-year-old boy

Joshua Lahai’s final day began like any child’s dream of summer: teammates, a beach, and the excitement of Memorial Day weekend. In seconds, that joy was shattered when a powerful wave lifted Joshua and a friend off a distant sandbar, dropping them where their feet could no longer find the bottom. Panic met rough surf, and within moments, Joshua disappeared beneath the crashing water as horrified relatives watched, helpless from shore.

For 24 agonizing hours, first responders, volunteers, and Joshua’s family searched the churning sea, clinging to the thin hope that he might still be found alive. Instead, closure arrived in the cruelest way possible—through a fisherman who felt an unthinkable bump in the dark water. Officer Christopher Redmond waded out, brought Joshua home, and with him, the painful certainty his family begged for: the search was over, but the questions, and the grief, had only just begun.
