The Kansas City Chiefs saw one of their wide receivers go down with an injury during a training camp session on Wednesday.
Justin Watson was carted off from training on the fourth day of camp at St. Joseph, Missouri, after suffering what appeared to be a left foot injury following a tackle.
According to The Athletic’s Nate Taylor, trainers observed Watson’s left foot after he walked off the field on his own. However, he was eventually carted up the hill and sat in the cart’s passenger seat.
That he was in the passenger seat should come as good news. It usually spells a troubling injury when players are put in the back as they aren’t allowed to sit normally so they don’t have to bend their legs.
Justin Watson Might Not Be Seriously Injured
It remains to be seen what the player’s status will be, but all signs suggest he’s not badly injured. Even a slight injury would necessitate a cart, given that there’s really no reason for any player to walk uphill while hurt.
There’s also the fact that he walked off the field under his own power.
In any case, the player will be handled with caution over the first week, whether or not he can return to training.
Watson was a fifth-round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018. He joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022 and has since become a three-time Super Bowl winner, winning a ring with the Bucs and two with KC.
