Netherlands field hockey star Joosje Burg needed immediate medical help after she suffered a gruesome facial injury during the 2024 Olympics semifinal match against Argentina.
The 27-year-old was trying to help her country secure a victory when she was caught in the face by a hockey ball while defending Agustina Gorzelany.
The hectic play went down in the first quarter as medics quickly attended to her and removed her from the court as blood kept spewing from her face.
It turns out that Joosje Burg was bleeding profusely from her nose.
Burg, who made her Olympics debut in 2021, was taken to the locker room, bandaged up, and later returned to the game because she is a tough hockey player.
Throughout the match, she could be seen on the bench with ice on her nose
The Netherlands’ Joosje Burg Speaks On Seeing Her Late Father In The Stands At Paris Olympics
Joosje Burg is leaving it all out on the field as she deals with the pain of not having her father by her side.
Burg’s father passed away in 2019, and she recently revealed that she had told her mother: “I see him as if he is sitting there,” as told by The Hockey Paper.
Burg further added: “He was my biggest fan and was my coach when I was 10 or 12.
“And then, after I went to another club, he was at every match, so it feels really weird to be here without them. But it gives me strength (to think of him).”
Joosje Burg says that winning a gold medal would be an awesome tribute to her father, who tragically died in an accident during a holiday in Thailand.
“It already is, and if we make it, it will be even more,” said Burg.
