Democrats have spent years insisting that illegal aliens don’t receive federal benefits like SNAP, Medicaid, and Medicare. Every time Republicans try to pass legislation explicitly barring illegal aliens from those programs, Democrats oppose it. Every time they accuse Trump of “cutting Medicaid,” what they really mean is he’s cutting Medicaid for illegal aliens. And now, demanding that Medicaid stop sharing data with ICE, they have confirmed the contradiction so cleanly that even their own allies noticed.
The question writes itself: if illegal aliens aren’t receiving Medicaid, why would Medicaid have data relevant to ICE deportation proceedings?
Democratic senators sent letters to HHS and DHS demanding that Medicaid data sharing with ICE be shut down, citing a federal injunction from a California judge that limits what health information can be shared. They described the administration’s use of Medicaid records as “lawlessness” and an “abuse of sensitive health information.”
