Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a highly concerning left elbow injury during Sunday’s game.
The frightening incident occurred on a critical first-and-goal play from the 1-yard line with three seconds remaining before halftime.
Left guard Chris Paul accidentally stepped on Daniels’ foot as the quarterback backed away from the center. As he tumbled awkwardly backward, Daniels instinctively extended his left arm to brace his fall onto the turf. Consequently, his arm twisted unnaturally under his body weight, severely reinjuring the exact same elbow he had dislocated last season. Fox NFL broadcast analyst Tom Brady even uttered a shocked profanity upon viewing the gruesome slow-motion replay.
Daniels stayed down in immense pain before trainers loaded him onto a motorized cart with his head covered. Prior to the exit, he was playing brilliantly, accumulating 96 passing yards, one touchdown, and 69 rushing yards.
Team officials officially ruled him out for the rest of the game after sending him for immediate X-rays.

Former NFL team doctor David J. Chao, known online as ProFootballDoc, provided immediate video analysis of Jayden Daniels’ injury on X. Chao confidently diagnosed the Washington Commanders quarterback, posting, “By video, clear left elbow dislocation.” Furthermore, he noted that this devastating structural issue is heavily “similar to last season”.
Consequently, the medical expert explained that a joint inevitably “comes out easier 2nd time”. He added critical context regarding the long-term anatomy, stating that an “original ligament tear heals ‘looser’”. Due to the visual severity of the hyperextension, Chao correctly predicted that Daniels “will be ruled OUT 2nd half.” Ultimately, his professional social media breakdown provided early clarity for worried fans before Washington issued their official report.
