New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor was arrested in Florida this week.
Taylor – a former pass rusher who is one of the best defensive players in NFL history and has been described as the best defensive player of all time by former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick – is reported to have turned himself in to police following the emergence of a warrant.
According to TMZ, Taylor was arrested in Broward County late Wednesday afternoon and has since been released.
“Broward County jail officials tell us … Taylor turned himself in on an outstanding felony warrant on Wednesday at around 5 PM — and was thrown behind bars on one charge of failure to report name or residence change,” TMZ notes.
“The ex-New York Giants superstar remained in jail for several hours … before he was ultimately released at around 3 AM on Thursday.”
Lawrence Taylor’s Lawyer Says He Is Innocent
The 65-year-old, a two-time Super Bowl winner and former league MVP, is among the most talented players in NFL history. However, he has found himself in trouble with the law on multiple occasions.
His recent arrest was the second for the same offense since 2021.
His attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, insists it was due to a misunderstanding.
“My client, Lawrence Taylor, will be pleading ‘Not Guilty’ to the recent charges,” Eiglarsh told TMZ. “As with the previous incident involving the same allegations, Mr. Taylor did not knowingly commit any criminal offense. This situation is a significant misunderstanding.”
“We are confident that, once the prosecutors review the exculpatory evidence demonstrating Mr. Taylor’s innocence, he will once again achieve a favorable outcome.”
