Head coach PJ Fleck led the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team to an impressive victory on Saturday night. They secured a thrilling 27-24 win over the Washington Huskies in their highly anticipated Big Ten opener.
Quarterback Drake Lindsey powered the offense early by throwing three impressive touchdown passes in the first half. Subsequently, linebacker Maverick Baranowski sealed the monumental road victory with a clutch tackle on the game’s final play.
The victory allowed the team to improve its record to 3-1 on the season. Following the game, the head coach might’ve been more fired up than his players.

Linebacker Maverick Baranowski was bleeding from his mouth after being hit by a cleat on the game’s final play. During their emotional postgame embrace, Fleck grabbed the senior’s head aggressively with both of his hands. He then wiped the blood from around the player’s mouth and smeared it directly onto his own face. Even the broadcaster couldn’t believe what he just watched.

Afterward, when discussing the unusual incident, Fleck jokingly referred to Baranowski as his genuine “blood brother.” He explained that back in the day, that is likely what frontiersmen out West did in similar moments. Meanwhile, Baranowski thoroughly enjoyed the passionate postgame exchange despite labeling his energetic coach “a crazy man.”
Star wide receiver Javon Tracy also addressed the move and said, “I would never do that, but P.J.—he’s different, man. Like, he’s crazy. He’s very energetic.”
With PJ Fleck coaching the team, the program has had multiple winning seasons and has won seven straight bowl games.
