The Dallas Cowboys made an embarrassing mixup this weekend.
With training camp now well underway, veterans are getting calls to re-sign with their old teams or join new ones, though it’s rare for a retired player to receive such an offer unless they’re Tom Brady.
That was the case with former defensive end DeMarcus Ware, who received a text telling him he needed to find himself at the Cowboys’ facility on Monday morning for random testing. Of course, Ware has been retired since 2016; he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year.
“Cowboys head trainer, Jim Maurer sent me this text last night,” he wrote on Instagram, posting a screenshot of the text message along with a video of himself gearing up.
“I guess it’s go time. #94 + #90 + #11 sounds like a pass rush team to me,” he added.
Ware revealed having made a call to find out why he received the message and was told it had been meant for DeMarcus Lawrence.
“I called Jim after receiving this text and we laughed about this because the text was meant for DLaw (DeMarcus Lawrence),” he noted.
The Dallas Cowboys Defense Will Be Different In 2024
The Dallas Cowboys boasted a pretty mean defense last season, which meant their defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn, was always going to be considered for head coaching positions by other teams.
He has since taken over as the HC of the Washington Commanders.
It remains to be seen how good their defense can be in 2024. Sadly, they won’t have Demarcus Ware despite the cheeky attempt to get him back.
