The Olympics are one of the most exciting sports events of the year. Even though they only happen once every four years, fans around the world tune in to see their favorite athletes compete to win the gold medal.

However, as we’ve learned over the past few weeks, the Olympics aren’t all sunshine and rainbows. This year’s Olympics in Paris have so many storylines that we can’t count them all on one hand, and this recent break-up during the big games only adds to the media fire.

According to Olympic sailor Lara Vadlau, her and now former girlfriend, Lea Schuller, have called it quits. While it has ultimately been confirmed that the two did split, there is no reason why they broke up.

It was highly unexpected, especially after the aforementioned Vadlau had just won the gold medal on Thursday. It was one of the best moments of her life, and unfortunately, this breakup has soured it.

Not only did the sailor enjoy her time on the podium, but so did Schuller herself. Her Olympic squad won the bronze medal in women’s soccer on Friday, beating Spain 1-0 in the competitive match.

While Schuller and Vadlau are no longer romantic partners, Vadlau told O3 in an interview that they are still “very good friends” and that she is proud of her ex for her bronze medal performance.

The two will remain friends and hopefully enjoy further success. However, their lives will undoubtedly differ after the relationship, as they often post about it. The couple frequently flaunted their relationship to their fans but obviously will now focus more on their careers.
