JJ McCarthy and the Vikings offense about to run a play from the line of scrimmage.

It is the beginning of August, and the NFL preseason is in full swing. Many highly anticipated top 2024 NFL draft picks have made their preseason debuts, and the Minnesota Vikings may have one of the best!

The Vikings drafted former Michigan signal caller JJ McCarthy with the tenth overall pick in the 2024 draft, and he is already going to be seen on NFL highlights tapes even though he may be starting the season as a backup.

In the Vikings’ early pre-season tilt against the Las Vegas Raiders, McCarthy completed 11 of his 17 passes, throwing for nearly 200 yards and two touchdowns compared to just one interception. Already, one of those touchdowns made the highlight reel.

JJ McCarthy Connects With Trishton Jackson For A Beautiful Touchdown

In the clip, McCarthy can be seen dropping back to launch a perfectly thrown 40-yard bomb to the receiver Trishton Jackson, who took it in for the last 5 yards. Fans are ecstatic about the young future franchise quarterback.

One fan commented on the post dissecting the play, calling it “perfectly executed” after McCarthy’s three-step drop and perfectly placed ball, while another fan added that the “rookie quarterbacks are going to go off this season.”

Some fans are even calling McCarthy better than third overall and fellow draft-class gunslinger Drake Maye.

While the pre-season may have just started, McCarthy already looks like he will be a stud. However, there are still questions on whether he will start in year one, as the Vikings are set on using Sam Darnold as the starter to set McCarthy up. Whatever the case, the former Michigan quarterback deserves whatever successes come his way.
