A blockbuster trade proposal has the retooling Golden State Warriors sending franchise icon Draymond Green to a top Eastern Conference team.

The Warriors have already bid farewell to one all-time great in Klay Thompson, who signed with the Dallas Mavericks in free agency. Though Stephen Curry is still a difference-maker, the two-time league MVP also isn’t getting any younger (37 next year).

Though Curry will presumably finish his career with the Warriors, GM Mike Dunleavy has to make this team younger if the Dubs are to contend for another championship before the four-time NBA champion retires.

Dunleavy could accomplish that goal by trading Draymond Green, a four-time All-Star who turns 35 next year. The four-time NBA champion and defensive stalwart would certainly appeal to championship-caliber teams looking for that one last piece to get over the top.

Collin Loring of Heavy.com proposed a blockbuster trade idea that would see the Warriors trade Draymond Green to the New York Knicks in exchange for Miles McBride, Precious Achiuwa and Mitchell Robinson:

“Robinson has his share of health concerns, but his ability to make plays above the rim has been integral to his Knicks tenure. Green, at age 34, isn’t in the business of playing above the rim.

His three-point shooting would be an upgrade over Robinson’s 0% career average, though. Green shot 39% from deep last season, making a three-pointer in 29 of his 55 games played.”

The Jalen Brunson-led Knicks won 50 games and reached Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals last year before injuries caught up to them. The Knicks lost to the Indiana Pacers in seven games, and there’s no telling how different the series could have been if New York stayed healthy.

New York has already made one big splash this offseason, acquiring another scorer in Mikal Bridges via trade with the Brooklyn Nets. They also extended two-way star OG Anunoby, whose elite defense took Tom Thibodeau’s group to another level during the regular season.

Draymond Green Could Get The Knicks Over The Top

The Knicks have a great mix of scorers and defensive studs. Now imagine if they added a future Hall of Famer like Draymond Green, who would be a grade-A fit under a defensive-minded genius like Thibodeau.

New York already has the makings to contend for a title in 2024-25, but a player like Green could be the final piece to help them break through with a championship.
