VIDEO: Social Media Is Confused Over The Toronto Argonauts Of The Canadian Football League Winning Game Over Purposely Missing A Field Goal

Canadian Football League game featuring the Toronto Argonauts and the Saskatchewan Roughriders on the field

The Toronto Argonauts earned a victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in a Canadian Football League in the strangest way possible.

Not many Americans indulge in the Canadian Football League, which is why they are going viral over an obscure rule that is normal in the league.

On Thursday night, the Toronto Argonauts and the Saskatchewan Roughriders battled to a 19-19 tie.

The Argonauts lined up for a game-winning field goal with one second left in regulation. Things looked normal enough, as NFL fans are used to seeing things like this.

Unfortunately, the Toronto Argonauts kicker missed the mark, going just outside the left upright.

However, for some insane reason, the players on the team, as well as the fans, began celebrating as the score changed to 20-19.

The Argonauts won a Canadian Football League game on a missed field goal.

For those who were confused, the announcers provided an explanation, alluding to the Canadian Football League rule that states missed field goal attempts that go out the back of the end zone count for one point.

In the CFL, winning the game this way is called a “walk-off rouge.”

NFL fans actually hated everything about this Canadian Football League:

Explaining The Weird Rules of The Canadian Football League

For fans who watch the NFL, you are aware that the only way for a team to score a single point is on an extra-point attempt after a touchdown.

That is very different in the CFL.

In the Canadian Football League, there is something called a rouge, which is worth one point. We just saw it happen in the game between the Toronto Argonauts and the Sakatchewan Roughriders.

In the CFL, the kicking team is awarded a rouge, or single point, if the team either misses a field goal or punts the football. The receiving team, on the other hand, will not get the ball out of its end zone.

A team can score a rouge if the ball goes through the end zone and out of bounds without being touched on a missed field goal or punt, per Bryan Murphy of Sporting News.

The receiving team will get the ball at the 40-yard line as a result of the play.

Basically, you can sleep well at night knowing that the NFL will never adopt this rule.
