A field in Ontario burned down this past week. It was known for being the filming location for some of Hollywood’s best movies, including the 1992 hit movie A League Of Their Own.
According to TMZ, Jay Littleton Ball Park lit on fire just before midnight Thursday night and burned to the ground. The park was built in the 1930s, making it over 90 years old, quite a feat for the old ballpark.
The Park was named a historic location, and its long history of being such drew many fans who came to visit and take pictures. Unfortunately, fans who haven’t had a chance to see it won’t see it anymore.
“A League Of Their Own” Will Remain One Of The Only Successes From Jay Littleton Ball Park
One of the most famous movies filmed at the location, “A League of Their Own,” was inspired by the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which rose in popularity. At the same time, many MLB players joined the army.
The 1992 hit movie had a star-studded cast that included Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna, and even Rosie O’Donnell. It made over $130 million at the box office and earned a spot in the United States National Film Registry 2012.
Many fans enjoyed watching the movie and probably still will. Unfortunately, it will remain one of the only major successes filmed at the ballpark.
