Pat McAfee had fans worried after standing way too close to a cannon during Saturday’s ‘College GameDay.’
The ESPN sportscaster has posted a video to X, which shows him standing at attention while holding a sword right before the cannon he’s standing next to goes off. Of course, the thing was not loaded, but it does appear that the former kicker was much closer to it than he should have been.
Check it out in the clip below:

Social media found the whole thing as funny as McAfee did, with one fan labeling him an “idiot.”
“What idiot stands right in front of a cannon like that 😂,” they asked.
There were several more reactions, a few of which you can see right below:
“Dayummm two steps to your left and Pat would’ve been flat 😂,” a user claimed.
“Chill Pat we need you for the rest of the season 😂,” another warned.
“That was almost game over for you,” someone commented.
“Why did they let him stand so close?” someone else asked.
Pat McAfee & The ‘College GameDay Crew Had An Eventful Saturday
Pat McAfee and the rest of the ‘College GameDay’ crew were at College Station, Texas, on the day, setting up for the clash between ranked sides Notre Dame and Texas Tech.
As expected, it was plenty of fun, even Nick Saban had to admit that after getting hugged by a shirtless McAfee at one point. The former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach was also the victim of a wicked joke from McAfee, who took a shot at him over player payments.
The crew is scheduled to visit Ann Arbor for next weekend’s fixture between Michigan and Texas.
