Longtime SportsCenter host Scott Van Pelt was like many other thousands of fans on Thursday night who tuned in to watch a game and not a ref show.
Thursday’s season opener between the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens came down to the final seconds. It was decided by a toe that went out of bounds.
As many fans pointed out, as well as Scott Van Pelt, it never should have been that close, as the entire game was littered with missed calls, no calls, and downright questionable calls.
Van Pelt got his chance to voice his frustration after the game as he called out the refs over the number of formational penalties called against the Ravens.
Baltimore was called for an insane five times for illegal formation. The Chiefs, however, only had that penalty called on them once.
“I’m sure Baltimore’s gonna say, didn’t they do it also?” Van Pelt said, per Awful Announcing.
Scott Van Pelt:
Everybody's excited that the NFL is back. And it's an incredible game with two great teams.
I do think it's reasonable to say that at some point, the ref show in this game was a bit, excessive. pic.twitter.com/Vm19um8Ja0

Scott Van Pelt was speaking with former NFL lineman Damien Woody, who had his own commentary. He believed the Chiefs playing at home had a lot to do with how the refs called the game.
“Listen, it might be a little bit of home cooking there,” Woody said.
Longtime SportsCenter Host Scott Van Pelt Is Never Afriad To Speak His Mind
Scott Van Pelt has long been a voice of the people.
When fans gripe about something during a game, whether it’s the NBA, NFL, MLB, or NHL, he is always one to state what is on his mind.
Last night was just another reason why Scott Van Pelt is one of the best to ever do it. He will call out the refs on national television and doesn’t have to worry about being fined or reprimanded for it.
