Stone Ridge Christian High School could be in hot water after refusing to play another school with a transgender player on its roster.

Transgenders in sports have become a major talking point across the United States, with various entities and institutions, including schools, trying to find ways to be as inclusive as possible while keeping the playing field level.

Of course, that’s easier said than done. And the aforementioned high school didn’t even bother trying to find a way. They simply forfeited the game, citing “God’s word.”

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Stone Ridge Christian was scheduled to play San Francisco Waldorf in the girls’ volleyball Northern California Division 6 tournament’s semis but has opted not to.

“We believe God’s Word is authoritative and infallible,” they told parents in a letter. “God wonderfully and immutably created each person as male or female. We do not believe sex is changeable, and we do not intend to participate in events that send a different message.

“Standing for Biblical truth means more than the outcome of a game.

Stone Ridge Christian High School Could Be Sanctioned By The CIF

The aforementioned outlet also reports that the California Interscholastic Federation is considering punishing Stone Ridge Christian High School in the wake of its decision.

“Any team that withdraws from CIF playoffs is subject to sanctions at both the Section and State levels. No decision has been made at this time regarding future sanctions,” a CIF spokesperson told the Chronicle in an email.

California state rules allow high school players to take part in whichever sport they want to, depending on the gender they identify with.

How this particular case pans out remains to be seen.
