The Detroit Lions had everything rolling on Sunday in a blowout 47-9 victory at the Dallas Cowboys, and somehow, they still came out as losers when Aidan Hutchinson went down with an injury.
Hutchinson, Detroit’s best defensive player and an NFL Defensive Player of the Year candidate, was injured on a sack of Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in the second half.
Cameras could see him wincing in pain as he wrapped up Prescott, then stayed down on the ground as his teammates and even Cowboys players began to stand around him.
The replay showed that as Hutchinson spun around while wrapping up Prescott, his leg hit a teammate. That force was great enough for Aidan Hutchinson to break his leg.
Aria Hutchinson, his sister, wrote on her Instagram story, “Please pray for Aidan,” which sparked an outpouring of support across the NFL community. Her emotional plea came just hours after Hutchinson’s gruesome injury unfolded on the field, leaving teammates and fans in shock.
The next day, she would take to her Instagram once again and share a message that Aidan Hutchinson had for his fans
“Aidan wants you all to know that his healing and redemption story has begun. He is holding the motto of Detroit close to heart: resurget cineribus.”
How Long Is Aidan Hutchinson Going To Be Down?
Aidan Hutchinson was labeled “the heartbeat of this team” by Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery after the edge-rusher suffered what’s expected to be a season-ending injury in Sunday’s 47-9 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
“You can feel the energy coursing through the way he talks and how he carries himself,” Montgomery said to The MMQB’s Albert Breer. “That’s a big blow, but we’re taking this personal because we know that it means a lot to Aidan.”
Hutchinson has already undergone surgery for a broken tibia and will likely be out for the rest of the year.
Lions coach Dan Campbell said Monday that Hutchinson will be down for a few months.
“The surgery went great — it is all good news,” Campbell said. “It’s probably 4-6 months, but I would never count Hutch out. It hurts, but if anyone could make it back, it is him.”
